Kringlas - A Family Holiday Treat

Of course, the holidays bring out the great family recipes. I was recently gifted with a package of our family traditional Kringlas from my sister via the U.S. Postman. I am sorry I have no history about this recipe to share with my readers except that my grandmother always had a batch made for us. I personally haven't tried to make them yet. Since you have to twist the dough a little like a pretzel, I always imagined mine coming out as mutant beings and I just can't take the pressure of failure So I am always grateful for others who do the baking. Happy Holidays to all and I will see you in the New Year!

Kringlas

Mix together:
1 ¼ c. sugar
1 egg
1 stick butter, softened
1 tsp. Vanilla

Then Add:

3 c. flour
½ tsp. Salt
1 ½ tsp. Baking powder
½ tsp. Nutmeg
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1c. Buttermilk or 1/2c. Sour cream, 2T. Powdered buttermilk and ½ c. water

Mix and set overnight in the fridge. To make, take a small ball of dough and form into a long rope then into a figure 8. Bake at 400 degrees for 5 minutes until light brown.

Chex Muddy Buddies - Easy, Non Baking, Baking

Even with living in Florida for a month and renting a space (aka a trailer), I still had visions of me baking up holiday treats and blogging about them. What I didn’t take into account is that the Florida Sun has a strange effect on me, turning a normal, high functioning women into one lazy lady. Add that to the fact that our rental space lacks a few key baking utensils (like measuring cups) and you don’t get to do much. But I did manage to score a sale on Chex Mix this week ($.75 a box after coupon) so I am planning to make up a batch of this Chex Muddy Buddies. A perfect activity for my son and I to do on raining mornings and then a perfect treat for me to enjoy as I lie in my hammock soaking up more sun! Enjoy!

Cinnamon Glazed Pecans - Going Nuts for my Friends

To all my dedicated readers, I am so sorry I have not posted in over a week. Even with the holiday and my travels down south, I really meant to post but time just got away. I have been really excited to share this recipe for Cinnamon Glazed Pecans. I came upon these when I was looking for something simple to make to add to my box of goodies to give to friends along with the White Chocolate Snowballs. These are so easy to make but they do take time to cook (an hour with spooning them every 15 minutes). But I would bet money that the nut lovers in your life will be pleased with the results. Enjoy!
